china butt (_._)

i was doing some random googling one night and came across a picture that caught my eye lol. um, someone should send this picture to rove - 'what the?!'

haha lol. if it was a japanese invention or something, i wouldn't be so surprised. but china?

"no mess no bother"
is the motto for this crazy invention. i never knew this practice existed, but apparently it can be traced centuries back, as evidence is in some of the chinese folk art paintings. how interesting is that?!

so why on earth is there a need for these 'split-crotch' jumpsuits? isn't the posterior the coldest part of your body? wouldn't the chances of the poor child catching a cold increase? (actually not sure about the last question) and my goodness, can you imagine a toddler running around with their private bits on display? aww, gee ..

well, that's some of the obvious disadvantages (that i could hastily come up with). so why is it such a common practice amongst the people in china? well, we all know how big the country is .. not to mention it's population!! statistics show that there are 1.2 billion people in china, and about 18 million babies born every year. china simply cannot afford disposable diapers. in this case money is not an issue, rather the environmental factor.

limited resources and landfill mean that china already recycles just about everything you can think of. so imagine 18 million babies multiply by 3 diaper changes per day! whoa momma, that would be impossible for them to handle, hence the idea of 'split-crotch' jumpsuits for babies and toddlers!

so considering all that, maybe it is a smart practice. after all, this practice saves money, saves the environment, and will have your child potty-trained at an earlier age!
